I was a UC student at a school of Engineering for Chemical Engineering. I was placed on Academic Probation for a quarter because my grades were under 2.0. The following quarter, my quarter gpa was under 2.0. So I got expelled from the school. I was also a transfer student from a california community college.
Okay so here’s my problem… The UC I went to says I “must complete at least 20 units (or 5 five courses) directly related to the major with a minimum grade point average of 2.5”. I am having a hard time looking for classes that I should take. I’ve taken all the calculus I could, and all the physics. The classes I had left to take for graduation were “Chemical Process Analysis” “CHE Kinetics” “Engineering Modeling & Analysis” “Separation Process” “Process Dynamics” and lastly, the project design class.
Has anyone faced this problem before? Should I find any basic engineering classes that I could take at a community college? Are there private schools or online classes that would have classes similar to what I need to take? Or should I just try to take some slightly irrelevant classes, hoping that a good gpa will be enough. I emailed an academic advisor. I am trying to make an appointment with him in person. He said that once I have a plan for readmission, he would review it with me. The problem is that I don’t really have a plan. Any advice would help. Thank you.
Does this list of courses include those that you earned D and F grades in? If not, can you retake those courses to earn C or higher grades in them?
Can you take the needed upper division courses through the extension / concurrent enrollment program or during a summer session at the same UC, a different UC, or a CSU (CPP, CSULB, or SJSU)?
You need to communicate again with your advisor, and ask for specific help with devising your plan for readmission. Ask specifically which classes you need to take. Ask whether the community college pre-engineering classes would work. Ask whether a good GPA in classes not directly related to your major would be enough. And keep pushing for an in-person visit.
Thanks for replying. @ucbalumnus. I earned a D grade in chemical process yes. The other classes I have not taken… Good suggestion about the extension. I took a short glance at the classes available, but I will further look into it and tell how it goes.
