Expensive dream school or affordable public?

mom2collegekids: That’s better. I realize that for many unlucky people it’s a dream, but not a reality. I’m very fortunate that my parents were smart with their money when planning for my college years. It’s sad that many people aren’t so fortunate; instead of accomodating the students who want to be here the most, it seems that NYU takes those students who will have the easiest time paying for it.

pierre: I completely agree. No one should go to a college, even Harvard, if they do not have the means to pay for it. Undergraduate loans are just not worth it. Anywhere.

"I think it’s scandalous that a school that claims to have such a top business school hasn’t figured out how to invest its endowment in a way to fund low income students. "

I know a finance/accting prof at NYU. he knows enough modern finanicial theory, as do I, to know that its questionable whether being smart makes possible above normal returns on investments - a fortiori being good at teaching business.

I don’t understand, most of the people here seem to be under the impression that my parents would need to go into debt to finance my education, when that isn’t the case. My dad actually told me that my family’s quality of life would not be affected from the financial strain of NYU.

well if that’s the case, go for NYU then! If your family pay for your schools, then it’s your choice.

well i paid the deposit yesterday, hopefully i didnt make a big mistake. thanks for all the input everyone.

Good luck at NYU then! Great school, great city! :)
