K I am Canadian and I am accepted to UT's business program as well as Stern's business program. I am planning to major in finance. Should I stay in Canada or Stern? I am leaning heavily towards Stern just cause it is in New York and I thought it might be different experience. Money is of no issue. I see quite a few americans applying to Canada and maybe its because I'm from Canda so I dont quite see what's so good about Canadian schools. Which of these 2 schools would have a better reputation in the world?

The US is the economic dynamo... of course US school would recieve more recognition.

truthfully nyu stern is great for business but it is not the best. i got into stern but im having a hard deciding whether i want to go or not. i was too scared to apply to wharton but now i wish i did but i didnt have time anyways seeing as the apps were due along with all the other commonapps but upenn does not use commonapp and i would have had to write 2 new essays in 5 hours and that was just not feasible but anyways, if you really want to go into business...

go to nyu for a year or two then transfer to UPENN wharton. that is THE best business school in at least the western hemisphere since i know nothing of the east.

Chezo,

NYU Stern has one of the best FINANCE departments/programs in the world. I know of many business majors (at my school and others) who ditch their own finance class to watch the webcasts of Professor Aswath Damadoran at Stern.

Furthermore the finance recruitment out of Stern is incredible. I know of a few liberal arts majors from CAS at NYU who were able to land iBanking jobs simply because of NYU's relationship with Wall Street.

I think you'd be doing yourself a huge disservice by not going there.

just to let u know...kids in the US are biased towards american unis so it's not best to ask that question on CC, which is undoubtedly hounded by american students...

in the international world, U of Toronto is much more reputable than NYU, and it is an awesome Uni. both are great choices tho, and i have nothing against NYU.

i disagree...UT is generally pretty easy to get in compared to NYU...a lot of people with average grades go to UT from my school (im in hong kong)...and NYU's business program is top 10, and wall street hello?! haha. and NYU is reputable.

butttt if you wanna go back to canada and live, maybe UT is the better option.

balonce_noles,

The poster said they wanted to major in finance. Are you honestly saying UT is better than NYU Stern for finance, of which NYC is the capital? Even if the program qualities were equal (which they are not; UToronto is undoubtedly a great, underrecognized institution in the US but it cannot compete with Stern for finance), the mere opportunities at Stern make it better.

If one had to choose between the two simply based upon job opportunities, this would not be a difficult decision at all.

thank God i moved to US for highschool from canada!

definately Stern. Especially since it's major strong point is in Finance and that's the major that you want. Plus as someone said above...there are SOOO many opportunities in NYC including great internships you could take advantage of.

Plus from Stern you could also take regular NYU classes which could be beneficial esp if you are interested in theater/arts or you could take advantage of the study abroad program.

i would definately pick NYU Stern

I just have to wonder, did you end up getting the job? Or did you see the entire banking field crash in the recession and have one of the worst experiences in freshman year?
