experienced test-taker, but first time with New SAT

I will be taking the SAT for the first time in January. I have previously taken the PSAT, a few SAT IIs, and the old SAT (John Hopkins talent search). I've scored in the 700s on each section for all of these tests. I'm shooting for an 800 (or as close as I can get) on each section of the SAT.

I haven't prepped at all for the SAT. How should I do it? I am planning on studying during my winter break.

Math is my best subject in school, but I am prone to stupid mistakes on SAT-type tests. Therefore, it has not always been my highest-scoring section.

Critical Reading: my vocab is generally pretty good, and so is my reading comprehension.

Writing: My grammar is pretty good, and I normally can recognize and correct nearly all of the errors. The essay is what worries me the most, and I'd like some study tool that will really help me score well (11/12) on the essay.

Please suggest what book you think would be most helpful to me. I realize that a lot of people use the Blue Book. What are the Blue Book and the Red/White Book? Would you recommend either of them?
Good practice tests would also be extremely helpful. Is the Blue Book the same thing as the 10 Real SATs?

The Blue Book is the CollegBoard's official preparation book for the New SAT. Definitely get it.

Just worry about the blue book. The blue book is the same as 10 Reals but for the New SAT.

The essay is extremely easy. They give broad questions such as "Are celebrities good or bad?" You are to give examples from history, your own experiences, blah blah.

You can do a standard 5-paragraph essay and do well.

Thesis: Although it is true that [counterexample], the [general statement] blah blah blah because [pts #1, #2, and #3].

(The counterexample is used to briefly acknowledge the opposing side; you don't need to do this though.)

It doesn't necessarily need to be 5-par - other formats work as well (blue book).

thanks guys, i got the book today
