I recently was accepted to a good college with a failing grade on my mid-year report. This grade has dropped about 8 more points in the past months. It's just extremely difficult for me. I want to talk to admissions just to explain or to show my interest.

What are the steps that I should take? Should I e-mail or call? Should I ask my interviewer for help? Or e-mail the staff at the help website for this college?

Thank you for any comment. I'm really worried about this.

Do you have GC in HS? S/he should be able to help advise you about this. What is the course? Have you spoken with the instructor? Can/should you consider dropping it & taking it for summer school? Considered a tutor for subject?

Thank you very much. Yes, I have a guidance counselor, and I will talk to her. Just wanted to know my options beforehand. It’s AP Calculus AB and the instructor is very strict. I work with friends on it. Hopefully, summer school would be a last option if the college even accepts summer school. If they already saw that I’m failing the course, would it have a big impact that it dropped a couple more points? What are the chances of actually getting rescinded? My other classes are fine, just this one. But thank you again.

I guess I’m confused. If you fail a course, they U only sees an F, as far as my kids apps were concerned. If you were admitted after they saw your F & your other grades are OK, not sure it should matter much to the U. I’m sure they would be happier if you could work with the instructor and tutor to bring your grade up to passing, if at all possible.

It depends on the school. A school won’t necessarily rescind over one failed grade in a difficult class but they may want to know why there was a sudden drop.

By the way, do you need the math credit to graduate? That’s another concern.

Did you fail the course for the first term and is it on your transcript or is the grade simply on your report card?

Does your school annualize grades, meaning that your transcript is only updated at the end of the school term or are transcripts updated each term?

Unless the F was on your transcript (the school did not see the grade). You first need to find out this from your counselor.

I would advise going to tutoring if they offer it at your school or getting an outside tutor. Your not being able to handle this math course may be a problem when you take college math (unless you can completely bypass math as a graduation requirement)

Keep in mind that a condition of college admissions is that you successfully complete high school. Should the school rescind your admission, what is your plan B?

Will you need the course as a graduation requirement? If yes, than this could be a problem. The short answer is do what ever you can to make sure that you get a passing grade.
