Would it be a good idea to send in a video of me acting in a school play if im extremely confident that it was a great part and that i did a good job?

I am no expert, but I doubt the admissions office will review a lengthy tape of someone performing. My son (who is a freshman) submitted a CD of some vocal selections which were forwarded to the music dept. for some review. I don't know if it impacted on his admission-especially since the theater dept. is non auditioned based. It would be better to have a recommendation sent from your drama director or to include a review for your file. I just can't see the admissions office sitting there and watching a play, a full concert, reading a 20 page scientific study etc. - but I may be wrong.

no no no, it would just be a select few scenes no longer than about 7-8 min. it would be professionally edited

I still don't think the admission's office would do anything with it. In my son's case, they forwarded it to the music dept. and he received a letter after admission citing different musical opportunities he could participate in. I don't think it could hurt, but if you will be going through a great expense to produce this video, then I don't think it will be worth it. The theater dept. is non auditioned based so they are really not looking at your acting prowess for admission. Everyone, majors and non majors alike, take an introductory theater class and after that one, the instructor gives you insight into whether you should pursue it as a major. Good luck!
