Extenuating circumstances and Tulane (one bad hs semester)

Hi guys

So right now Tulane is my number one school and I was going to apply binding early decision but I’m wondering like…can I even get in!

I’d have a 3.7 or 3.8 UW GPA if I hadn’t had one semester junior year with basically all Cs. I have a 3.16 I think UW but it’s weird because I went to a college for two years so I have a college GPA of 3.6. I was dealing with the death of a close friend and staying with my emotionally abusive father during this time. I got a 31 on the ACT, not that you have to chance me. Does anyone have any experience with applying and writing about extenuating circumstances in the additional information section? I would really appreciate it because even though Tulane is my dream school I’d kind of regret ‘throwing away’ my one ED chance at colleges on one that’s probably out of my league.

If you went to a college for 2 years then won’t you be a transfer student? I don’t think they have ED for that! Have you shown interest in Tulane? Have you spoken with your admissions advisor? If you can apply ED that would be your best chance.

I took college classes through a high school program… would I? I haven’t talked to my advisor but I will now, thank you!

If you took the courses through dual enrollment, you should be able to apply as a freshman.

Agree that you need to check to see of you are going to be considered a freshman or a transfer student.
The application has a place to explain (not excuse) anything you think if of note, so that’s not an issue. But check with their adcomms to see if you are a transfer or freshman applicant. 2 years of college sounds like a transfer.

Dual enrollment still qualifies you as a freshman admit.
