Extenuating Circumstances/other

I dont know how appropriate posting this here is but here goes...

Just a few days before my mock exams a very close family friend shot his wife (also a very good fam friend) and himself, both of whom died. With my mom being the emergency guardian listed, the two children of theirs came to stay with us immediately after. Now, between the grief/dealing with the family and friends coming over constantly/Struggling with the reality that this actually even happened, i bombed my mock exams which in turn took my gpa with it. Now I in no way want to seem like im using this an excuse for why i did badly, but studying effectively or at all is just not something i could have done in that time. Would this qualify as an extenuating circumstance? I know how important GPA is to admissions officers and i am trying to lessen the already harsh blow.

Definitely it would. But pardon my ignorance, but how does a “mock” exam affect your grade?

If the grades were a huge anomaly for you i’m sure your counselor can speak to schools.

“mock exam” is what we call the school’s internal exam that mimick’s the actual external exam. So basically it would be the last term of grades on the transcript :(

so… why didnt you tell your school about this? not like spread their business around, but explain that your family had suffered a catastrophe, and you felt that you were affected so that you would be unable to take the exams in a way that would reflect your knowledge of the material. im sure they would have given you more time, or you could have worked out something with the teachers.

besides, if your exam grades are so very different from your grades before, i think it makes a compelling enough case that you could argue for some sort of plan in which you could raise your grades a few points.
