External Transfer to AEM

Hi, everyone!

I’m thinking about applying to the Dyson School next fall, but I have yet to complete one prerequisite: General Biology II. My current institution has an extremely rigorous biology program designed primarily for premed students, and while I worked very hard in Biology I, I ended up with a B+. Should I continue with Biology II, or should I focus on a less rigorous course-load? I plan on applying to a number of selective colleges (including Columbia, Duke, and Georgetown), but I don’t want to risk my GPA (which is good, but not a 4.00).

Just to be clear, I was at the top of my class in high school, but since admissions are holistic, I don’t want to take any unnecessary risks.

This is of course bearing in mind that colleges usually don’t take into account a transfer student’s final second-semester grades (even though they do see one’s Mid-Year Report).

@WMStudent19 Hi, do you think if a student has not completed the required courses for AEM major should apply as a transfer? Or the student should seek somewhere else?

@ms9696 The number of students admitted to AEM as transfers is extremely low, especially when they’re transferring from a university which doesn’t have an articulation agreement with Cornell. The prerequisites are pretty important.
