Extra-Curriculars

Hey everyone, first time poster here! Just a little bit of background:

GPA: 3.9

SAT/ACT: Yet to have taken (Prospective 2250+)

EC’/Sports: Debate (9th grade), Ethics bowl (10th,11th), Travel Soccer (9th, 10th), National Honors Society

My problem is that I feel I am lacking a lot of extra-curriculars or need to partake in some school sports. I am aiming for some ivy schools / competitive universities and feel that ec’s are an integral part in the admissions process. In freshmen year I never really got engaged into the school ec’s and mainly focused on my grades . Now I feel it’s very late to partake in any club or sports that would have meaningful impact on my admissions decision. I am thinking of returning back to debate club this year and have had great success at national ethics bowl (won 3rd place at hofstra uni) and potentially doing track and soccer in the spring of junior and fall or senior year. My only concern is once again that it is too late for it to have any meaningful impact on my admissions. I believe this to be the case because I won’t hold an office position or a high level in any of the activities I would do since I would be new and inexperienced. Does this really matter? Should I take some extra ec’s for the sake of them or just try and find some ec’s that I could get great value from? Advice?

Don’t take extra EC’s for the sake of them. Those are a waste of time and colleges won’t look favorably upon them.

You should find some EC’s that you could get great value from.

You don’t need leadership positions, even for Ivies. They are looking for impact and even a club member can have that.

I second that, eleventhgrade.
