Extra information??

So, I've taken several online courses over the past year through things like MIT Opencourseware, Open Yale Courses, etc. I was wondering if this would be something to put in my extra information section? What do you guys think?

If these additional courses do not show up on your transcript, then, yes, I’d list them (as briefly as possible) in the additional information section. Keep it simple and straightforward - date, name of program, name of course.

Okay. So you don’t think I should talk about why I took them?

Also, I didn’t enroll in them or receive any credits from them, is that okay?

Could I say:
Because I go to such a small school with limited class options, I’ve taken several free online courses over the past year. These classes include: …

Is this an appropriate entry:
Because I go to such a small school with limited class options, I’ve taken several free online courses over the past year. These classes include: Principles of Microeconomics through MIT OpenCourseWare, The Challenge of World Poverty through MIT OpenCourseWare, Financial Theory through Open Yale Courses, Financial Markets (2011) through Open Yale Courses, and Justice through Harvard Open Courses.

Just list them. Don’t include the commentary about how “small” and “limited” your school is.

I’m in a graduating class of 6, and because of that I’ve not taken any AP classes, so I wanted to point out why I haven’t. But I’ll omit that part if you think I should.

Would it also be worth mentioning that I’m self studying for three AP exams?

Isn’t there a place to list AP exams, including anticipated tests (you can put a future date)? I know the Common App changed some this year, but you could do that last year.

You certainly could put a sentence in the extra info section about that: Currently self studying for the following AP tests: X, Y, and Z. If you are sure you are going to take them, that is. Don’t list them if you aren’t sure.

I didn’t know that there was a place to include anticipated AP tests if I’m not enrolled in that AP class.

I am definitely going to take two (microeconomics and calculus), and I’m not quite sure about the third (statistics). So I’ll at least list the first two.
