hi,
I am an international student from Italy and I am applying to some LAC. I have gone to China for an exchange year and my counselor from there wrote me a recommendation letter. However, I am not sure if I should send it or not, I read that usually it’s better not to send anything extra. What should I do?
Thanks
If the schools you’re applying to allow you to send in an extra letter, it can’t hurt. Check to see if they have the “other recommender” open on Common App and ask your counselor to upload it through there. If you’ve already applied, don’t bother.
- See if the colleges allow for a supplemental LOR.
- If the colleges do consider if this additional LOR can tell the admissions officer some new/different informant about yourself before sending. There is no need to send multiple LORs saying the same thing but if the LOR from China will likely talk about something different (ex. adaptability in a new country, language skills etc.) then I'd send it.
Don’t send the letter if it will simply reiterate what was said in other letters. However, if it genuinely does highlight a different aspect of your character, it can’t hurt to send it in as long as the college allows for another rec letter.
