So i am doing the common app online to carleton. I invited two teachers to recommend. One of the teachers wrote a really good one, but the other one wrote a kind of bad one. The things it said about me were really good, but the way it was written wasn't that great (it was kind of one big paragraph) Also, for some reason, she wrote it about considering me for a scholarship. Idk why. So my question is should I have another teacher send a rec, even if it is average. I am guessing my counselor rec was also good.

bump. anyone?

If you have another teacher you'd like to ask I wouldn't think it would hurt. OTOH, since the teacher said good things I wouldn't worry too much about poor writing style or skills on the part of the teacher as being reflective of you.

Just curious, how did you get to read these recommendations? You're not signing the "waive" box?

along the same train of thought: i'm applying as a theatre major. in addition to the academic teacher recs, would it be good for me to send along a performing rec? (i already need one for other schools, so already have a teacher who is writing one.) i didn't get to read the letter, but the teacher knows me a lot better than either of the academic teachers do...so i think could really spin a better picture of me than either of them could.

I think a third rec would be fine, as long as it provides a different perspective than the first two. I asked the sponsor of my literary magazine to write me one because I felt she knew the most about my growth as a leader over the last few years.

Mm, that makes sense. from my theatre teacher, it would obviously discuss me as a performer...plus although i haven't read the letter, i'm pretty sure he's discussing things that the other teachers don't know about me (like my family situation and my involvement in the drama department at school).

Is it easy to send along three recs online? Fang Jr has three, but don't they just ask for two?

I'm not sure; my school mailed all three. You could probably submit the two teacher recs online and then mail or fax the supplemental rec separately.

Carleton asks for one.

^One recommendation letter? Carleton exclusively uses the Common Application, so you'll need two recommendations because that's what the CommonApp requires.

um, trust me, I called up the admission office just today, and that's what the very kind receptionist lady said.
CommonApp only provides the forms for 2 recommendations, and it doesn't require you to do anything.

Oh well. I sent two teacher recs and one supplementary rec.

:)
You will get into Carleton, and I won't.
I need to find new schools to apply...

And it's all because of my extra teacher recommendation...

:) I need to stop thinking about Carleton so much; I'm going to go completely mental over the next couple of weeks.
