Extracirricular Activities Questions

/Hello Everybody, I am currently a junior, I have a few questions about extra cirricular activities:

So here is the list of all of the ECs I am currently/have been involved in:

In School:

Orchestra (9/10/11) (Have been making All-Region, also, I participate in the UIL Competitions)
Orchestra Officer (11) (VP)
DECA (10) (I won regionals, state, and was a finalist for Internationals)
Academic Octathalon (9) (6th overall in region, medaled in art and math)
Chess Club (10/11)
Chess Club Officer (Treasurer in 10th, President in 11th)
Model UN (11)
Model UN Officer (11)(Secretary)
Key Club (9/10/11)
Key Club Officer (9)(Class Representative)
JWAC (9/10/11)
UIL (9/10)

Out of School:

Volunteered at UTSW Hospital
Volunteered at Medical City Hospital
Volunteered at Senior Living Center
Volunteered for Various Events for Church/School
Part of an outside volunteer-based organization (NTYHS)

So here are my questions:

How would my EC's look in the eyes of a good college (Stanford, Rice, Cornell, etc)

What are some good/bad things about my ECs?

I didnt make NHS this year (11th), because I was caught cheating (Past has gone by, I have changed). Will this hurt me, and will colleges see this?

Thanks for reading and answering!

I think it’s a nice list - and shows that you contribute and learn outside of a school environment.

One comment - Not everyone knows what the heck your acronyms mean… So, in your apps I would indicate what a JWAC and a UIL stand for! Junior Welterweight Air Conditioner? University In Lilliput? Unbelievably In Library?

Good luck!

What do you want to major in? It will be useful to have done atleast some ECs in areas related to what you want to major in

And I think that if you want to be a competitive candidate to Stanford, Rice, Cornell, etc., you should at least know how to spell “extracurricular,” even if you don’t have to use the word on your application. (It’s related to the word “curriculum,” which you should be familiar with.)

florian: I want to major in either medicine or some sort of engineering. Are my ECs ok for that, or should I be looking and participating in more medicine/engineering related ECs?
