Extracurricular Activites

Yesterday, I got nominated to be the Secretary for Multicultural Club and I accepted. Before that happened, I was the President of the Spanish Honor Society sophomore year to, junior year(I am a junior right now). The adviser for the Spanish Honor Society found out I gained a leadership role in another club, and took away my position as President. She claimed that being the Secretary for the Multicultural Club will conflict with my work at the Spanish Honor Society. She states that all the “secrets” of the Spanish Honor Society will go to the other club (I put the word “secrets” in quotations because the Spanish Honor Society truly does not have any secrets). The adviser for the Spanish Honor Society said that I could only be a member of the club.

Does she have a valid reason?

What should I do?

I am worried that the Spanish Honor Society adviser ruined my chances to show my leadership roles in my college application. Ideally, I wanted to be the President for the Spanish Honor Society, the Debate team(I forgot to mention that I am the President of the Debate team as well), and Secretary for the Multicultural Club.

In addition, the adviser of the Spanish Honor Society said that I could only be President again only if I resign my positions in other clubs.

Your adviser’s reasoning seems silly to me. But I wouldn’t lose sleep over this. What’s more important than a list of offices held is to actually accomplish something with your EC’s. My D was not president of the debate team because that was an elected office that went to the most popular person. But my D was the most accomplished debater on the team and won the most tournaments, and I believe that in the end that was more impressive than saying she was the President. Spend your time accomplishing something with the debate team and the Multicultural Club, and don’t worry about the Spanish Honor Society.

@Corinthian Wow, thank you, I really needed this. You’re the best! I will definitely take your advice.
