Run my own domain w/ a number of sites.

i'm going to Rice U next year. as i see it you have three options in high school regarding community service and other clubs/activites

do as much as you can so colleges love you (and you will probably not enjoy life for 4 years)

do some so colleges think you're an ok person (and you'll probably complain anyways)

don't do anything you don't want to do. this is the option i chose and i have zero regrets. activities are great but don't do them for your college applications - you should be doing them if you want to or it doesn't mean much. i've got a good friend who did every club and activity and community service project he could manage and he really has had an awful time in high school. the key to enjoying high school is not to stress. i applied to 9 schools and got into 6. let me know if you have any questions

my list (sort of):
i worked for Media Services (about $9/hr) all through high school filming plays, moving AV equiptment around, and DJing middle school dances. i then was put in charge of the middle school dances and got about $120 per dance (yay money)
i did computer consulting for my school's families (yay more money: $45/hr)
i'm head of the LAN Parties club this year (but that doesn't mean a lot for colleges, now does it?)
i'm doing an independent study this year in comp sci - i think that helped a lot
i started a business with two friends this year as a webhost (contact me for cheap fully-featured web hosting or you@yourname.com email - woohoo shameless plug!)
i'm a "team leader" on yearbook - but its's a class at my school
7 APs (don't overdo it as i did a bit and others do to extremes)
i've never done community service that school offers
i've never played a sport at school
i'm a camp counselor - i think colleges like that

the major trend in this list is that i did what i wanted to, not what college counseling told me to - i encourage you all to enjoy high school

Will establish my own community organisation once it is incorporated by the state of FL.

if i'm not really involved in school, would that affect the chance of me, getting into a good college or university?....

hey, thisyearsgirl- where do go horseback riding? (If you want to chat about horses, send me a Private Message- I'm a total horse nut) I ride at a small barn out in Great Falls. My freshman year, I rode at a barn out near Orange/Fredricksburg/Culpeper. Yup, it took about 2 hour to get there. I did a lot of hunter shows (practically every weekend), but they were local shows. Sophmore year came around, and I just didn't have the time to devote an entire weekend to riding. I started riding at a barn closer to my house, and I've done a couple little hunter shows from time to time. Last summer I went to a riding camp in England for two weeks. It was lots of fun.

Other than riding, I've done speech team- 9, 11, 12; JV Track- 9, Project Enlightenment (historical reenacting at Mount Vernon) - 11, 12; Spanish Club- 10; McLean Youth Orchestra- 12; Marching Band (I was in Color Guard)- 12; Classroom Aide at Hebrew School- 9, 10, 11, 12; Amber Hill Riding Team- 9; Pit Orchestra for the Spring Musical, Les Miserables- 10. I think that's it, but I'm not completely sure. Oh, I've also done a lot of skiing at Wintergreen during the winter, too. My EC's were the only thing that saved my ass. I've been involved in a variety of fun activities, and I've enjoyed all of them. :)

Right now I'm in...

Varsity Track (sprinter)
Chamber Orchestra- Have played the cello for 8 years
Vice President (elected last week) of International Club
Youth group @ my church

-about 200 hours of community service with SOME (So Others Might Eat)

Anybody get established their own community organisation incorporated by the state? can you tell me how long the process takes. I am still waiting for my organisation to be incorporated by the state of FL.

the key is to be really involved in your ECs, not just to have a million things that you went to one meeting for....so basically its quality not quantity!
