Hey all premed students. A great way to separate yourself from other medical school applicants is by starting your own organization. One great organization which I am apart of is MEDLIFE.
This month a group of 30 students and I went to Ecuador and set up day clinics with Ecuadorian doctors and dentists in rural villages. As students we got to check vital signs of patients, shadow doctors/dentists, educate the indigenous people about safe water, hygiene and proper sanitation and got to learn about there culture. We gave primary care to over 400 children and 200 adults. It was an amazing experience. If youre interested in learning more or want to start your own chapter at your current school let me know and/or visit the website medlifeweb.org. Its quite easy to start one at your school because the website is very helpful plus I can always help.

This is exactly what I’m looking for! I’ve been wanting to start some kind of medical organization that would allow me to help people in third world countries. Can you tell me how to ger started?

Hey,

Great to hear your interested. I’m actually a recent grad from Cornell University and started a chapter of MEDLIFE last year and am going to intern with them this year in Peru. The general mission of MEDLIFE is as followed.

At its core, MEDLIFE is a group of students and young professionals who have decided to stand up against the injustice they see in the world. MEDLIFE is not simply an organization that runs medical brigades our vision is not so constrained. Rather, our objective is to work with motivated individuals and communities in need to deliver better access to healthcare, education and development and to improve overall health.
