If my son is working to get his private pilots license will the Air Force Academy consider these lessons as an extracurricular activity?

If he gets his PPL, he will be able to include that on the application, as an activity.

Will that “activity” then improve his chances for getting in? Or does it not carry any more weight than say baseball would as an “activiy?” Thank you so much for your reply!

I really don’t know. I don’t have access to that kind of information.

I would guess that it has a moderate weight. It does take a certain amount of commitment, and interest in aviation is something USAFA tends to look favorably on. It would not likely outweigh being the team captain, or something that showed leadership experience.

Show you were committed to certain activities is important. It’s not like having a PPL will automatically outweigh other things based solely on the fact that its related to aviation. But as ramius pointed out, earning your PPL does show a commitment which is always good.

but as with pretty much all things on the application, the important part of any activity or sport or club is that the person has an interest in it and does it because they want to and not just to have it as a bulletpoint.
