About Extracurriculars

From what I've read on this forum, extracurriculars have a fair impact on admissions. Is it safe to say that the time and dedication to a certain activity counts for more than the number of activities? For example, I play tennis five times a week, three hours a session. I manage to squeeze in before-school choir, MUN practice once a week, and student ambassadors, a leadership/community service program. Is 4 a lot of extracurriculars?

Also, concerning sports, I've been tempted to do basketball as it's a team sport (tennis is fairly individualized, and I wanted to have diversity, I guess) but it interferes with my tennis. (note that basketball would be an school extracurricular, and only be in place for one season, although tennis is year long) Any suggestions as to what I should do? What would go best with the admissions?

Thanks!

My suggestion is that you not tailor your extracurriculars to fit your preconceived notions of the admissions process. You’re selling yourself – and more specifically your dedication – short! All admissions officers want to see is passion, and if you’re participating in activities that you’re truly invested in, no matter what they are, you’re headed in the right direction.
