Extracurricular Activities

Would entering the same art competition yearly, be considered an extracurricular activity?

For example, the art competition was a way to bring exposure to animal rights. Also, the competition required you to research certain animals through the process of creating an art piece. In addition, the organization used your winning artwork to help raise money for abandoned animals each year would this be an extracurricular activity? Or is this too broad?

I think the "competition" part makes me unsure if it should be considered an extracurricular activity...

If you spend a substantial amount of time preparing your artwork, from anywhere to a few weeks to a few months, then it’s an extracurricular activity.

If it’s a “submit-and-go” kind of thing, perhaps it would best fit under the special honors or accomplishments category.
