Extracurricular concerns

If my ec’s don’t demonstrate a passion for anything in particular and the topics for my ec’s are spread out (random ec’s, no particular theme), is that bad?
I feel like colleges will assume I’m doing my ec’s just to fill my resume.

Thoughts?

In a way, it seems you’re trying to cook something with ingredients, but no recipe. It’s not about some awards or even “passions.” It’s about what the whole shows about your thinking and maturity, how you choose and commit, challenge yourself, take on responsibilities, now and over the 3.5 years you show in your app. Plus how you show you’re a good sort with some energy and willingness.

Eg, you noted church vol in another post, but I haven’t see what you actually do- pass out napkins after service or dig deep into service for the community? You mentioned a dental internship, but what is that, really- research, a job, or just watching? You mention hs titles but it’s more about what’s actually accomplished.

I don’t mean to sound harsh, but you need to put on your thinking cap, look at what you do and what more is available. Take this beyond “random.” Does College Ready have ideas for you? These programs are usually good at mentoring, suggesting things that help kids grow and prepare, more than academic prep or tours. Some of your colleges may not care about ECs, but some will. Best wishes.

Most colleges don’t care about ECs, so relax. For those that do care - IMO - the best strategy is still to do what YOU want to do. Never do an EC because you think some nameless AdCom will care! So sign up for what interests you - HS is a chance to expand your horizons - you should take advantage of that. There WILL be a school that appreciates you for what you are all about.
