I have spent a great deal of time in various programs, clubs, and on my own learning American Sign Language, and I was wondering if this counted as an extracurricular activity and if it would be a good one to elaborate on upon in the writing section of the Common App. It has a huge impact on the way I learn, and engage in my other main extracurriculars (the performing arts, and teaching the martial arts to children with various learning and mental disabilities, as well as deaf and blind kids). It is also very relevant to my future goals, which involve making the performing arts more accessible and enjoyable to people with disabilities. My school doesn't have an ASL club, and I wish I had taken the time to create one, but since I did this 100% outside of school, in YMCA classes, local groups, and my own, would learning ASL be considered an EC and do you think it would be a good one to elaborate on? Thank you :)

i think thats cool and i would elaborate on the ASL… anything can be considered an extracuricular really

Yes and yes.
