For the questio that asked you to expand on one of your extracurriculars or work experiences, do they want your responses to be creative or more basic and just explain what you do?
From what I’ve seen, the word/character limit is fairly restrictive, making it difficult to write in a more narrative format like the main common app essay. The ones I’ve seen have been a bit more basic and “straight up” in how they answer the question. You could always try it both ways and see which you like better (if you could do it more creatively I don’t think it would be negatively judged because of that), but in my experience a more creative narrative format uses up too much space and it’s hard to actually fully describe the EC.
I think they are looking for a “get to know you better moment”. Pick an activity that is not just something you participate in…and explain what the activity has added to your life and your growth…or what you brought to the activity from your values, family story or roots, or just your personal talents or lights. I personally don’t believe you have to have an elected office in an organized activity to have something to claim and share. In other words, your part time job for cash may be just as of interest here as your volunteer work. If your extra curriculars are one card in a hand of five you can flash on the table…what is the thing about you that is not obvious from your grades and test scores…put that card down.
