Extracurricular in drama, major in business

I just have a quick question; I am interested in being a Business major in college, but I've recently decided I think I would like to join the drama club and attempt to be in some of the plays after I'm in college. My question is though, will I be allowed to join drama/theater/musical theater clubs if my major is nowhere near them?

Or do they let anybody with an interest join?

They will welcome you with open arms. Extracurricular theatre is for kids who have an interest but are not studying theatre. There are some very talented people involved, too!

Cool!

I had the same question. Can I still audition or be in plays in college even if Im only in drama club or something?

Canes, what you would be able to do depends very much on the college.

A big university might have a number of extracurricular drama groups that specialize in musical theatre, straight plays, Shakespeare, all kinds of things that anybody can participate in. Some schools, especially smaller ones, might have far fewer opportunities.

If you are researching schools, this could be something you would want to find out about. Whether the school has theatre classes that people who are not majoring or minoring in theatre can take, who can audition for theatre department plays, what the extracurricular offerings are like, etc.

You might be able to figure these things out from the school’s website, or you might need to call.

If the school has a theatre/acting major it will be more difficult to be cast in a theatre production. There are many schools without a theatre major that has a very respectable and full schedule of both student and school run productions, Cornell is one that comes to mind. As NJTheatreMOM said, research will tell you if there’s a major, just classes, or just productions and how many/what type of productions are offered.
