Extracurriculars For Theatre Majors

So I have been considering going to a community college (CA) and then transferring to a school such as USC or a UC for their BA Theatre. I am currently on gap year (personal reasons) and have been told that extracurricular activities and volunteering is good but that is just what I have been told by friends. I want to know what such ECs and volunteering work are good if that is true. I am a bit unfamiliar with the whole process so any information will be greatly appreciated. Also wondering if it has to be related to my major since my major is…quite different from most.

P.S. I was thinking of volunteering at an animal rescue before all this and was wondering if that is still a good option. Also considering doing community theatre.

Definitely do community theatre! It will be a useful extracurricular and provides real life experience for your career. Volunteering at an animal shelter would work too. Not all extracurriculars have to be related to your major- i’m studying environmental science, and I did theatre as one of my extracurriculars.
