I'm a sophomore, and I was just wondering what would be a reasonable number of hours per week to spend on extracurricular activities? I saw a thread here a while ago with someone posting that they did something 20+ hrs/week... is that excessive or to be expected?

I can't speak for everybody, but I feel like it would be good to have one (or maybe two) activities that you really focus on, which you can show through your hourly commitments.

My big activity was policy debate, which I did for about 15 hours a week. I was also involved in other activities, like student government and science olympiad, but I only did those for like 2-4 hours per week. I was accepted, but I really get the feeling that a lot of my peers were much busier with their ECs than I was and that my list was generally pretty sub-par. =
