I was wondering if my high school does not offer as much Extracurriculars as most of the other Ivy league applicants, etc then would I be disadvantaged?
4.0 UW/34 ACT/good recs so my problem is extracurriculars.
Currently I am a Vice President in peer tutoring, school officer in Future Business Leaders, and won various awards in Future Business Leaders and top 15 in the ACS chemistry olympiad year 1 exam, etc
Just because your school does not offer something doesn’t mean you can’t do it outside of school. Participate in your community, take on internships and/or leadership position. Your school shouldn’t be limiting you.
Extracurriculars are anything outside of normal classwork. (In case you didn’t know.)
Your school doesn’t have sports?
For both of my kids, their EC’s were outside of school. My daughter was in community theater and taught Sunday school. My son was a music leader and youth leader at church. Both volunteered as buddies to special needs kids at AYSO. There are plenty of opportunities in the community, don’t just rely on school.
No, the fact that your school doesn’t offer many ECs won’t disadvantage you. BUT, the fact that you have not sought out ECs to participate in outside of school (if your school doesn’t offer ECs you’re interested in) might.
My most important (by far) EC took place outside of school. The same is true for quite a few of my friends (who also made it into the Ivies). Are you a junior? If not, you still have time to find ways to get involved outside of school. What are you interested in?
Shoot i forgot some stuff lol I wrote my original without looking at my resume. I also did 150 hours in the local library/hospital/arrange events and quick question: where does one put in internships in resume? Work experience? I researched in a lab over the summer of last year and will be interning this year (summer between junior and senior year)
But I couldn’t do sports because im kinda limited for personal reasons
