I heard that FSU gives very little consideration to extracurriculars. Admissions says gpa, then test scores and course rigor. Anyone know if they even look at extracurriculars and if so how much weight they are given?
This year’s 1st decisions were
1.rigor
2.math level
3.intended major
The rigor is mainly a high weighted gpa
I believe they had so many qualified applicants it ended coming down to intended major. Sometimes it helps to state that you have one. They know if your a fit or not. I’m sure they look to see if you have interests, but the other stuff is most important.
[FSU’s Common Data Set](Office of Institutional Research - Florida State University) describes what criteria are considered and how they are weighted.
Course rigor is #1. FSU wants to see AP/IB/Dual Enrollment/etc classes. Second tier are GPA and test scores - how you do in said hard classes. Extracurricular activities are a third tier consideration. They’re important to have some, but unless you’re borderline, they probably won’t factor into the decision.
Intended major isn’t going to determine whether you get in or not. A high percentage of students switch majors, plus you aren’t formally admitted to any program when you’re an incoming freshman.
