Extracurriculars??

I'm going into 9th grade in the fall, and I need some advice about how many extracurriculars to take. I really want to go to Duke when I'm in college. I hate sports and I'm interested in astronomy, science, and technology. I like math and reading. How many extracurriculars should you take in 9th grade if you aim at an Ivy-League school?
Also, I applied to Thomas Jefferson School of Science and Technology and wasn't accepted. Should I apply again next year (and take the PSAT) or just stay at Lake Braddock Secondary School? Will staying at LBSS hurt my chances at an Ivy-League college?
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

dont be the one that loads up on like hundreds of EC's find about 5 legit ec's u like and get dedicated to them. For instance, i love the medical field, so i joined EMS, i do it so much and i have 1500 hours of comm service now...i admit i originally went into it thinking that it will be awesome for college but if u love it it will make ur life easier, more enjoyable, and colleges will see that u love it and they like that more then seeing 100 clubs that u were apart of for only a year at a time. Good luck bro hope i helped

quality over quantity, my friend

Take what you have time for and what really interests you. Again, make sure you actually get involved in the activity. And come on, you're in ninth grade! You shouldn't be decided on a college already--focus on living your life. Worry about this later, when you're my age.

Don't be shooting for a number of EC's, just do what you have a passion for.

Besides, the first year of high school can be so unexpected and take many twists. Do not try to excessively plan for anything in it, seeing that you make decide against it or not be able to accomplish it. I know last year at this time, I was in 8th grade thinking "I'm gonna do lots of EC's." Now, I'm just doing about four or five; the clubs that I like, as opposed to things that may look good on an application.

does pimping count as an EC?

ya man have fun as a freshman, go out with LOTS of girls, thats wut i did and had a great HS experience, then i got serious ahaha
