Hello! My name is Cameron and I am a Junior in High School. I am not number one in my class, but I am certainly in the top 15 and probably in the top ten (but I haven't gotten my report card yet to know for sure). I am in honors English and College Level American Studies (goes for Ball State University-not that I want to go there). I am in Personal Finance, pre-calculus, Chemistry 2, Spanish 3, and Physics. I have an A+ (consistently) in Chemistry 2, Physics, and Pre-Cal, but in Spanish, Personal Finance, English, and American Studies I have a low to mid A and will probably end up with a B+ at some point. My GPA is somewhere around 10.4 I think. I don't know what that means though because it is on a 12 point scale. Apparently you can't just divide that by 3 to find it on a 4 point scale. I am in Honors Society (for what that's worth) and I am an Eagle Scout as well as my troop's SPL. I work at a summer camp for Webelos (nine through 11 year olds) and have for the past three years. My big problem is that aside from NHS, I don't really do anything at my school. That is to say, I have no extracurriculars. How big of a hit is that going to be? I don't know what school I am going to attend after high school, but I am going to college and I want to go to a good one.

Thanks for reading that mess and thanks in advance for any responses.

Well, if you’re planning on going to something like a state school and you exceed the average admitted for the school, then they don’t really look at extracurriculars to heavily.

If you want to apply to top tier schools (ivies etc) then that is a HUGE part of the application system. Basically high scores + GPA’s are a given for any Ivy, so what you do outside of school is what counts.

Hope that helped

P.S. Your eagle scout will look very good for colleges

That was helpful. I don’t know what school I want to go to yet, but I’m wondering if colleges look at how long you have been in extracurricular activities and if the ones I already have are better than, worse than. or equivalent to sports. For example, if I start swimming my junior year, would that be just as good as doing it my whole high school career? Do the sports I join matter? Would it be worth my time? I’m sorry for all of the questions.
