Extremely confused between UCB and Cornell. Please help!

Hi guys,

I’m an International student from India. I want the CS program at one of them.

My scores :
ACT : 34 (33 E, 36 M, 31 R, 34 S)
SAT II : Math 800 Physics 750
Toefl : 110

ECs :
Soccer nationals in Grade 9 and 10. Few other accomplishments in this field.
Guitar Trinity Grade 1
Prefect in School in 10th Grade.
2nd in 100 mt run in school

I know my ECs are not so good but I’ve given my reasons in the additional information. Idk how much that will help but let’s see. I showed my main essay to 6-7 people. Everybody liked it a lot. No negative comments.

My problem is whether I should apply to Cornell in ED (Binding) or not. I’d love to go to UCB but how are my chances? If I have a good chance for UCB, I’ll not apply to Cornell in ED. But do I? Or should I go ahead and apply to Cornell in ED?

Bump!

At UCB you can do CS either in the College of Engineering or in the College of Letters and Sciences (L&S). L&S is much easier to get into but once you are there you need to keep up a 3.3 GPA in the CS major prerequisites to be accepted to the CS major.

You have fairly good chances to get into L&S. College of Engineering admission is a reach for anyone.

@cheeryParent Thank you! I was also advised by a friend at Cornell that academically both are pretty much the same and such is the case with all top universities. Would you agree that opportunities will be pretty much the same?

You’re welcome!

They’re both good. Berkeley has a stronger brand in CS, especially on the US west coast and internationally. Cornell has a stronger brand on the US east coast. But how well you do in CS interviews matters a lot more than what college you went to.
