F 1 visa

hey guys i wanted to know something about the f 1 visa. are we allowed to work off campus if we go on f 1 visa, and by work here i specifically mean paid internships and things of that sort..

paid internship i think yes, but other than that, no.

on my local US embassy website, it is specifically pointed out that you cannot work off-campus in your first year at college. Check out your US embassy's website for more detailed info about F-1 visas. Moreover, I don't think you have many (good) paid internship opportunities as a freshman.

However, in many schools you can also work on-campus over the summer.

yes we can work on summer but how much money they paid for us for a hour

You can work 20 hours a week when school is in session. When it is out of session you can work 40 hours a week. But it is limited to on-campus jobs.
About salary: it certainly depends on the college, but I think it's gonna be 5 --7 bucks for an hour.

but when we work on campus do we pay for room&board on summer?

yeah i think if you intend to stay on campus during summers, you gotta pay additional money, ranging from 70-120 USD per week...

oh man!why are we working then:D
i wanna help my mom to pay tuition of school.are there any ways to earn money in summer?or any loan, scholarship

Are you people plannin to stay at college in Summer?

yes.i'm thinkin of that.why you askin ?

Dont you want to go back to family or anything in the summer

no i have to earn money for my tuition.i have to help my parents otherwise i feel bad

which school are you going to attend???

UIUC or Gatech or Toronto---engineering majors(civil or electrical)

i'm also planning to work on campus/research during summer....best time to make the extra$$....december's more likely the time to go home....but then i may not go home in my first 2 years at least...

That sounds hard, but understandable. For me, it will be the same. I want to take some burden off my parents' shoulders, and try to earn enough money to pay for extra expenses during the year. And getting a job in my home country for the summer, when everybody else wants one, too, and I'm not even there all year to look for one seems quite impossible. I'll spend Christmas at home more likely, too. What school will you go to, Jrock?

jrock but how much money do you earn for a month in summer?you have room&board expenses.there will no money left.

I'm enrolling at Williams. during the summer, you can earn up to $2,600 with free room&board on campus.

how free.free on your uni. or free on every university??
