wow… can’t find it at all… well, I fail.

I got 30,000/ Trustee Scholarship, 2,200/ Work Study, 10,000/ University Alumni Award…
And then 5500 in the Stafford loans, and 1800 in the Perkins Loan…what is that?

So without any loans I suppose that is 42,000/ a year. Hopefully I can find another scholarship or something because my parents EFC was 5,000-however since that was sent in my dad’s job was eliminated, also eliminated 35,000 dollars a year…
Could I appeal and maybe get a little more money?
What is a Perkins loan?
Is around 8,000 dollars a year in loans a bad idea?

How did you all log in? How do you know what your GW ID is? Is your PIN your birthday or the password you used to log into the application status checker?

Thanks,

HannahB, would you mind posting your stats? This is very helpful to see that GWU is still giving merit scholarships! I had heard they were decreasing them this year, which may be the case, but at least they are giving some. My D who is a junior in high school visited and loved it. It is so expensive and we won’t qualify for need based aid but I can’t afford their full cost…so I will encourage her to apply next year and hope to get in and also hope to get a merit scholarship!

Wait…after checking what stats people have who got merit scholarships, I noticed that the 2 who got the largest award ($30,000) had a bit “lower stats” (SAT’s, GPA’s) (no offense!) than the people who got $16,000 or $20,000. Are these merit plus need or strictly merit? (I realize there are need based awards listed also, but it seems like some are merit only, but now it makes me wonder looking purely at test scores, GPA’s etc.)

GWU is downsizing their merit program and upgrading their financial aid programs, so I think that their merit scholarships are merit + need.

Woah. This is fantastic! You’ll have between $22k and $34k (if the COA is $55,000 and not $52,000 and you will be taking out loans to cover the difference). Oh man. I hope I get a package like that. What were your stats?

Is a Board of Trustees Scholarship a merit scholarship only? I received $20K from this scholarship and then a $2K award from the University and Alumni. Work study and a “recommended” federal loan of $5K. Does that mean I didn’t get any grants?

I’m not sure I totally understand this, but if the merit money brings you down to your EFC, do you not qualify for grants?

Thanks.

I’m not sure about the Trustees one, but the University/Alumni award is need-based. I believe merit awards are listed separately, so if it was an award that showed up with you other need-based info, then it is part of your need-based finaid package.

If the amount you were offered doesn’t bring you down to your EFC, then is there room for negotiation, or am I just out of luck???

@applicannot

My stats:

3.81UW
1980 on SATs
I visted, had a good mix of extracurriculars, a pretty decent guidance counselor recommendation, and I think my essays were decent.

I’m pretty sure that my scholarships were strictly need-based, as my EFC is 0.

Total: $55,300 O.o
Minus 2,200 work study and 3,500 loan
=49kish
I am guessing I got a good deal ^_^

I just spoke to GWU and they said that all of the financial aid awards are not posted. They will be updating over the weekend. If you have go to GWEB and it says that No Award information is available that does not mean that you did not get anything.

Yes, agree with inuk. Just called as well and they are trying to get the information finalized and input over the next few weeks. EDII acceptance and still have not received any word (why I called-we had to submit extra info). QUESTION?? for those of you comparing packages to EFC. Are you using the Profile or Fafsa number? Just trying to get an idea which number GW is focused on (assuming the Profile).
Thanks!

I think the Fafsa EFC…I am not sure about my css EFC but my Fafsa EFC was 0 so they were pretty generous!!

Thank you! That was very helpful.

Np! I hope you get yours soon =]

55,635 COA
-51,000 in grants

= 2750 loans + 2000 EFC

I only get to pay 4750 a year!

What grants did you get?

The Board of Trustees Scholarship is need-based.
