FA decisions are out

will we receive the same amount of Eliot scholarship each year? is it renewable?

I was told it remains constant unless your tax return changes substantially the next year.

Income: 125,000

Eliot Scholarship: $1,800
Stafford Loan: $3,500
NO work study

This is absolutely ridiculous. How does Wash U even expect my family to pay over $45,000 per year. A lot of other people on this thread make comparable money and yet have 5 to 10 times larger grants. I don't get it. Is Wash U always this inconsistent?

I don't see the point of this thread...it will only make those who get inadequate financial aid feel bad. But then again, I contest the posting of EFC on CC as well. I just think financial situations are more of a private matter.

hum, i guess you're kind of right. i wanted to compare financial aid offers at first...but now i see it doesn't change anything since i can't take another person's data and say "they got more money" :(

okay.....stop postingXDD haha...sorry for starting this.

haha sorry sakuragirl, I wasn't trying to point the finger at you... I just thought some comparisons would get out of hand soon on this thread.

it's alright. i don't think before posting a lot of the timeXD ever since i got addicted to CC, my first impulse after receiving any college news is to log on and share it here. my friends think i'm crazy. most of them say "facebook@____@...what is CC?"

I agree it's not great to compare offers, because we don't have all the info. I am just disappointed that my D was offered nothing. While we do fine, there is no way we can afford the entire amount, and there are a few extenuationg circumstances. I did write about these on the application. ANyway, she got another acceptance today with about 10,000 in grants, 2,000 in work study and 3,500 in loans. This makes things more doable. My question is: it worth calling and trying to get another offer? Does anyone have any experience with Wash U being flexible at all?

Thanks!

Newmom, WashU can be fairly flexible with FA if you talk to them about specific things. Although my mother was the one who dealt with the FinAid office, I know that she was able to get a little bit more just by discussing things with them. I can't promise it'll work, but it's a start!

newmom - I am reposting a previous post - The financial aid office at WashU will try to work with you as much as possible. You should call, ask to speak with Mr Bill Witbrodt, head of the office - he has been very helpful in the past. You can reach him at 1-888-547-6670 or 314-935-5900. Have a plan before you call. Explain your situation and then have a well though out presentation as to why you need and should get financial aid from WashU. Pre determine a figure that you need in order to attend. Don't just call saying I need financial aid. They have made it work in the past and hopefully will be able to work out something for you. Just do it as quickly as possible - at this stage it does tend to be first come first served basis.

PM me if you have any other questions.
