FA for international applicant

Can anyone share some info/experience about applying FA as international student -- actually from Canada.
I hear people saying apply for FA may significant reduce the chance of admission. Is that true?

You will need to check each college website for specific information re: financial aid for Canadian citizens. It varies. Some schools treat Canadian students just like other international students. At some schools international students are not eligible for financial aid, at other schools the formula to compute it is different and at other schools international students receive aid the same as other students.

In addition, there are a number of schools where Canadian citizens are viewed the same as U.S. citizens for financial aid purposes.

And yes...at SOME schools admissions for international students is more stringent than for U.S. citizens/permanent residents. Regardless...international students do have to complete a form indicating that they have sufficient funds to come to the U.S. to go to college and be self supporting. This is, I believe, standard for international students (someone else with more info can either verify or clarify this...I'm not an international finaid expert).

Thanks thumper1.
Heard someone said even the college web states that they tread canadian same as US citizens. but in realy world, when they review your app they may still treat differently. Or for admission may be the same but for FA different.
Question is do we need send message to each college to cofirm that?

I would call each school and ask their policies on how they award financial aid to Canadian students.

Re: your other question...yes some schools do treat international students differently for finaid than for admissions. Each school has its own policy. Call and ask.
