Hey yall!

I was just wondering, how do I join the USC Facebook network? I've been accepted for the fall 2007 term, and was informed that finding a roomate on facebook is much more effective than using UChoose. It's saying that you have to have a university e-mail, but how do we get that. I went to my VIP and technology link, and it's not giving me my e-mail address. Any ideas?

once you register on VIP ( I guess once you send in your enrollment)
go on VIP, left column go to Personal, click on that,
under Personal will be the choice "Online Directory Data and Alias with a button that says "show me" click on that, it will give you your USC email address which you then can use to register for Facebook.

cathymee,
S and I tried that, and we must be doing something wrong. After the "show me" button, we got a screen that shows his name and preferred name. Out by email it says: "Your email address will be displayed in the online directory."
We clicked on the link to the online directory, and put in our last name. It showed a lot of students with our same last name, and they obviously had USC emails, but S's name was not among them. We paid all his $ back in October. Do we need to contact someone?

We just went to that site, you have to create your email account, under the preferred name category you will see a blank box for email, type in what you want it to be, see sample to the side, then finish up the prompts and you will have your email account

Thanks very much for the good info. Are there other things that S should be doing through VIP? He saw something about applying for voice mail. Should he do that now?

he would only use the voice mail after he gets his dorm assignment which comes with a phone #.S doesn't use the room phone option,I can ask him if other kids do. They mostly just use their cell phones ,texting and email/IM.
I think this is the norm, older D doesnt even have a "house phone" after four years of living independently (non dorm living).
Greenville, S can use U Choose on VIP, and once he starts school, you use VIP to keep track of meal plan usage, register for classes, keep track of your schedule, pay for Carolina Cash, order books at the bookstore (if you want),keep track of credits/transcript,order transcripts or proof of enrollment (health insurance companies and car insurance companies need these sometimes) and other functions I cant think of now..its a great system.
