Factoring Life's Troubles into Admissions

Hey guys, I know its too late and the decisions have been made, but this question has always bothered me and I've never gotten a straight answer. Do adcoms factor in life's tribulations into your admission? I mean, I'm no communist refugee or something like that, but i think it's been pretty tough. Personally, my mother died when I was 12, my dad remarried and divorced recently, and moved to a different state for a job. My stepmother had been diagnosed with breast cancer and has a chronic back injury. As of now, i am pratically raising my little brother. I noted this down on the "additional info" but Im not sure if they will take this into account. although Im in the top 2% of the class, i think that i could have done alot better academically had I not been given this "extra burden." (I use the word "burden" very reluctantly as I love my little brother and wish only the best for him. He will never be a burden as long as I know he is happy.) Just wondering if they do note this at all...

legendofmax, i know what's its like to lose a parent, and though it might be a but belated, I hope you won't let the tragedy dictate your life.

yes i think they do recognize this...im not quite sure tho

im the one thats going to be an orphan, with only princeton to take me under its wing :(

ilcapo...don't worry, it certainly won't be "only" Princeton.

tee hee, ilcapo, when we get into princeton, you can be my NEW little brother. Is that weird or what?

haha ilcapo no worries :D we are all in this together
