A couple of that last group are surprising. How does an admissions committee assess an applicant and not look at the transcript? Transcript is usually #1 or #2 with most other selective schools.

Well, you self-report the transcript on the online application i.e. you manually type in your classes, grades, and class size. GT doesn’t factor class rank.

Rigor and GPA are considered…they just expect the student to report it…the self reported academic record is pretty much a statement of the transcript…I think it saves them a lot of work by having the student type the info into their form fields to be analyzed rather then having to decipher each transcript.

Oops, cross posted. I’m slow with the touch pad.

when I read they don’t consider “transcript” I believe they mean any form, whether typed in or submitted. Beyond GPA and strength of curriculum (& “optional” AP & IB scores) I don’t think they are delving into which classes were taken and how the applicant scored.

OP- I pulled this from the website they are looking at the classes that are taken and they
are refiguring the g.p.a. They just aren’t requiring the student to send it in…

"The Self-Reported Academic Record
Our application differs from most other schools because, rather than have your high school send a transcript when you apply, we ask all students to self-report their own academic record. Yes, this means our application takes a bit longer than most, but you will benefit because our counselors have more time for a thorough review of your file and can provide you with a decision more quickly.

Students who are admitted and plan to attend Georgia Tech will be required to submit a final, official high school transcript prior to enrollment that indicates high school graduation. This transcript will be compared to the self-reported academic record submitted with your application to ensure there are no discrepancies.

No transcript should be mailed at the time of application, unless requested, but you can upload one to your online application to ensure there are no problems processing your file.

Calculating Your GPA
While students are asked to self-report their high school GPA directly from their transcript, we will recalculate a GPA for all applicants to use in our review process. We use a weighted 4.0 grading scale, factoring classes in the core areas of English, math, science, foreign language, and social science, and ALL AP, IB, or college-level classes. For students taking AP, IB, or college-level classes, we award an additional one-half point (0.5) for each course. Weight is not added for courses labeled Honors, Gifted, Magnet, etc., though please be assured that these will be considered during the curriculum evaluation. The holistic nature of our evaluation process ensures that students who attend a high school that does not offer weighted courses will not be penalized in our evaluation process"

Thanks MG, I stand corrected!
