FAFSA #86 - what if all of dad's earnings were unemployment comp?

I wondered what should be put in this question when the father only earnings were from unemployment comp.

How much did your father/stepfather earn from working (wages, salaries, tips, etc.) in 2010?
here is the 'help' (of course it does not detail this condition)
If your parents filed a joint tax return, report each parent's earnings separately. Your parents can use their W-2s or other earning statements to calculate their separate earning amounts.
UC not from working (by definition)

however,

an earning statement = 1099-g for UC; it is a statement of income from the parent. and in the 'help' is made equivalent to w2's, especially with the catchall word, 'OTHER'.

however, UC not=earnings in a sense, or should I cents. :)

this is another example of a vague ambiguous question.

mayeb fafsa is like those multiple choice tests. the first guess is probably right and don't too much thinking on the question; just hit it and go on? :)

maybe s/b = zero?

so where do you put unemployment comp? I thought I 'd find it eventually, but I think I missed it - unless it in the question above.

this is what I recvd from a search on the FAFSA HELP. Looks like FAFSA does nt seem to care about UC as a separate entity. Of course, it is already included in the AGI which IS collected.

It is already in the AGI. You don’t report it elsewhere.

Last year there was a non taxable part of unemployment and I believe that was reported separately on FAFSA. This year there is no non taxable unemployment.

The money earned from work question is used to calculate allowances for certain expenses related only to income from work, such as social security and medicare taxes. If there is no income from work, there are no work related expense allowances.

Swimcatsmom is correct. If there is no income on line 7 (1040 or 1040A; line 1 1040EZ) or on line 12 of the 1040, income from work=0. Any other income (interest, unemployment, etc) is included in AGI.

And make sure to use the correct line for taxes paid!!
