Fafsa and taxes question

When are the tax returns actually due....isnt it in july? Then how would we fill out the Fafsa for 2005 if we fill the taxes in july....i know your suppose to put around the right number and then correct it after you get your tax return.... but wont it be too late if you dont correct it before july??? if the parents make about the same amount each year....would it be a good idea to put the 2004 amount on the Fafsa?

how will the Fafsa ppl know this information that we send in is correct....will they ask for a copy of the tax return? and if yes then when would they ask this....before july? because after july would be too late

Generally, in January 2006 you would file the FAFSA for the tax year 2005. You would estimate numbers, then when the tax return is completed you would go back and correct the numbers to be exact.

I don't know what you would do if you are an August filer due to partnerships or other reasons to request extentions, except that I would encourage your parents to try and complete the returns ASAP. Many schools want to see the actual returns and they will, in fact, adjust your numbers based on self-employed business expenses, etc.

Does this answer your question?

yes, thank you very much!

what does "adjust your numbers based on self employed business expenses"?
im probalby just reading to much into it....lol

for example, if you take a home office deduction or depreciation, the finaid dept may decide to add part of it back into income! each school has their own guidelines as to what

yeah.. those are so confusing that i sometimes dont feel like doing it.
