FAFSA Corrections

Is there a deadline?

/

Is that deadline today?

You need to do your FAFSA corrections to receive a finalized financial aid award from your college. Call THEM to see if THEY have a deadline. My guess is they will give you an aid package without current information, but that will be an estimate only. I will also add, we had a financial aid package sent to DD in 2007 that was an estimate and was reduced by $6000....when we finalized our FAFSA with the tax info. Two other schools didn't change the award at all.

You want to finalize as soon as possible.

i'm not sure what 'finalize' means.

i've submitted the fafsa and it's been processed.
however, there's a minor issue with untaxed income (very small amount) that i initially listed as 0. on my 2008 w2, my untaxed income is 0. however, i house sat and did a few day labor jobs over the course of last year that mounted to the tune of about $1000 that i didn't report (my tax guy said not to worry about). for fafsa, however, it asks about any other sort of income. i put 0, because the corresponding number (fafsa question ----> w2) was 0. if i were to change that number to ~$1000, it would contradict my tax form. as of now, i left it as is, but am hesitant that i've done something wrong.
i don't want to jeopardize the whole application by making corrections after the due date, assuming there is one (for corrections) at all. i need a day or two to get in touch with my tax guy to run everything by him because it's well beyond my understanding, at this point. i guess what i'm asking is this: can i make corrections online AFTER today (3/2) without jeopardizing my application.

thanks.

I think house sitting is like babysitting. I wouldn't worry about that.

By "finalize" I mean that you have entered the information reflecting your 2008 tax returns and your filing status on the FAFSA is "taxes filed" (not "will file").

alright!
i'll still run it by my tax guy, to see what his thoughts are, but otherwise, i guess i'm in good shape..

still, what about the deadline?
does one exist for making corrections, or can they be made w/o penalty after 3/2?

You can make corrections all the way into the summer. But submit it originally by the deadline.

Just remember...until your FAFSA has the correct numbers from your 2008 taxes AND your filing status for taxes is "taxes filed"...your financial aid award will only be an estimate. GET THE INFO FROM YOUR 2008 TAXES ON THE FAFSA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so that the school can finalize your financial aid award.
