Can i still make corrections to the fafsa after the march 1 deadline?

Yes..............

I completed corrections to FASFA last night. Have the actual tax returns and so it was easy. Our EFC is now less than half of what is was.......... it is now 3586 instead of 8900. It was easy to correct online. I am not sure about a March 1 deadline for FASFA but there is a March 1 deadline for IDOC that is part of profile for CSS. I express mailed that yesterday.

Don't know if it is a good thing or a bad thing to now have an EFC at 3586? ANyone know?

the deadline depends on the school
lower is always good- but depends on school of course if that will make any difference in aid package.
However- as it is below 4500, your student should now be eligible for more govt grants like PELL

Girls4mom
I noticed that you were asking about Northwestern
If your D has applied to Northwestern- 1040 forms are also due March 1st
http://ug-finaid.northwestern.edu/prospective/index.html

EK-- is the Pell Grant now $4500 or below? I recalled it was $3850 or below.

ehh it used to be $4,500-I'll go look

max amount awarded is $4,050.
So I guess EFC would have to be zero to get that- and your EFC would probably have to be under $4,000 to get anything

they are talking about increasing it- the HOuse already passed their approval this week

Pell grant threshold is important to other grants as well-- the ACG for freshmen and sophomores, and the new SMART grant of up to $4,000 for Juniors and Seniors who major in Math/Science/Foreign Language. You have to be Pell Grant eligible (based on EFC) to be eligible for these new grants.

application for pellgrants is different from fafsa?

No-- you're FAFSA will determine your PellGrant eligibility. You have to take adtl steps for the ACG and SMART Grants.

Yes D has applied to Northwestern. They require the profile and IDOC. IDOC is basically the tax return and w-2's along with schedules A,B,C, and D etc. Copied all of this and the cover sheet which is required and sent it to IDOC as was stated. Didn't correct the profile as I understand that is what the IDOC does since it is acutal documents and not estimated figures. Also as I said went in and changed the FASFA to real figures not estimated. It was easy as they tell you which line to look at for the information on the tax return etc. I do however, need to go in and correct my H's FASFA as dad is a full time college student as well. Our EFC is based on my income as a teacher and some investments the kids have ( UTMA accts).

I am nervous about Northwestern. It is D's number one choice but it is a reach for her. She is 2/361 with great EC's and rec's but only average test scores on SAT and ACT. She has a 3.91 uw and a 4.269 wt GPA and will have taken 5/8 AP's our district offers. She has challenged herself academically and held a part time job for a yr as well. In addition, we drove 3 hrs one way for the alumni interview that lasted 55 minutes instead of the usual 30. Gosh I apologize..................... Her I am selling my D's merits. Her second choice is Miami of Ohio and she is accepted and her 3rd choice is Ohio Northern of which they have accepted her and awarded her $64K in merit scholarship money ( 16k renewable). As I have posted on other threads, this waiting is driving me crazy......................

So will she get Pell grant $$$$ ? What is ACG? I hate to sound stupid and all??

What are the additional steps to take to get the ACG and SMART grant besides doing the FAFSA?

Can CSS/PROFILE be corrected once you got the 2006 tax forms?

CSS Profile can be corrected by printing out the form from their website with all your information, correcting the entries that need to be updated, and mailing copies of this corrected version to the schools that require CSS Profile.

When you complete IDOC you are sending tax forms. Doesn't that correct the profile which is estimated if filled out early on. I completed estimated FASFA and CSS the first of Jan. Now that IDOC is complete and sent in to college board they have the actual figures.

what is idoc?

Idoc is a service of the College Board that is used by some colleges. If the college uses IDOC, they specify tax forms that the family must send to IDOC. IDOC then transmits this information to the colleges that use the service. I assume they scan the documents and convert them to a pdf file or some other easy to read format.

Not all colleges use IDOC, even if they require CSS Profile. Some colleges may want you to send tax forms directly to them. Others may not want tax forms from most students.

I am not sure exactly what the advantage of using IDOC is to the colleges. I assume the College Board charges the colleges for the service, and it's hard to believe that it wouldn't be cheapter just to ask for the tax forms directly. For the family, it is easier to send one IDOC form them to send multiple tax forms to multiple colleges. Of course, as not all colleges that want tax forms use IDOC, you can't count on that.

how do you know if your school uses this idoc thing? will they contact you about it?
