I will have two in college this fall and filled out two FAFSA’s. Somehow my husband and I put “will file” for taxes on one and “filed” on the other (at the time, we just put in estimates because we hadn’t filed yet). Should we just call the school that we erroneously said we filed since we made updates to both now that our taxes are done? Also, one of the financial figures is incorrect. Can we just go in and update the forms for DD1 & DD2 and resubmit? We just inadvertently copied and pasted a wrong amount for one of the questions.
Just go in and update the FAFSA’s, and if you can use the data retrieval tool (DRT) to link the forms to your tax returns, do that also. If you filed electronically, the DRT should be available within a couple of weeks. As long as you list the schools when you do the FAFSA updates, they’ll be notified automatically, so there’s no reason to call them. That you said “filed” instead of “will file” shouldn’t be an issue - even if you had already filed, the DRT wouldn’t have been available immediately anyway.
But if you’re concerned about the financial error you made impacting your students’ financial aid awards, then go ahead and contact the schools to give them a heads up about the change.
Thank you so much for your response!
