FAFSA-filed with "will file" DD doesn't need to

We filled out the FAFSA the first week in Jan. with estimates and put will file for both our (parents) and DD's taxes. After getting her W-2's she made less than $1700 and had no taxes taken out, so I was thinking we wouldn't file for DD as she does not have to. Federal return is free file but she didn't see a free site for NYS. If we change the FAFSA info (doing our taxes tonight), is that going to be a problem or put up a red flag? We already had the dreaded asterisk after the efc (did with other DD all 4 years).
Financial aid is going to be the deciding factor between her 2 college choices, one private uni, 1 state.

When you do your FAFSA correction, change your status to filed and update your information, either manually or by waiting and using the IRS data retrieval tool, and change her status to not filing, and enter her W2 income amount.I don’t see a problem.

Since you’re being verified she may need to sign a form saying she wasn’t required to file a return. But it’s not a big deal. Also since you’re being verified you will need to use the DRT when it’s available to you.
