The only aid I am looking to get for Michigan State is merit based scholarships- I have already been offered some, in fact. But do they require FAFSA to be filled out by March 1st for the official aid package or whatever they send out?

I'm going to fill it out anyway, to be on the safe side, but do I need to be concerned about doing it by March 1st?

Just in case anybody else was wondering, I received a letter dated February 28th- before I had filled out my FAFSA- listing what scholarships I had been offered. So I guess that FAFSA is not necessary for merit aid, at least not in my case.

No, the FAFSA is not required. You do need to fill it out if you want any chance at FA or federal loans. If you and your parents are prepared to pay full costs and the merit awards are just a happy discount, no need to fill it out.

Congrats on the scholies!
