FAFSA Log in Question

I (parent) completed FAFSA, electronically signed by creating FSA ID, had D creating her FSA ID/signing it, and submitted it successfully. Now I need to go back and add another school. And I don’t see where a parent can sign in. All I see is student sign-in. Is this correct? Can’t a parent see/modify FAFSA info without a student signing in?

I think you should be able to. Go the FAFAA home page and click on “Login” under “Returning User.” That should take you to a screen where the student can either enter the student’s FSA ID, or you can click on the option to “Enter the student’s information,” which will prompt you for the student’s first and last name, SSN and date of birth. If this information is entered correctly, you should be good to go.

I have done exactly what you said. It takes me to the page where updated status is shown (i.e. it’s been processed…) It says click here if you want to modify. But that page doesn’t take my ID. It says it doesn’t match with the student ID, etc. And all these pages show ‘STUDENT’ banner on the side. ugh.

Alternately have your student sign in, click on make a correction and if it prompts her to create a save key, she can have you continue from there with that save key

It’s your student’s FAFSA. Your student needs to use their log in info to get back into the FAFSA to make changes.

If this is the case, it only applies to a FAFSA that has already been submitted, because a parent can access a FAFSA to make changes (or add information) before submittal.

Right…but this parent says the FAFSA was submitted.

Understood… I just wanted to clarify that there appear to be different rules for parent access depending on whether or not the FAFSA has been submitted.

@BelknapPoint

I could be wrong. But when I was doing the Fafsa with my kids, I could not log in after submission using only my log in information. They had to do this.

Maybe that’s changed.

Thx for your help! I understand now she has to log in to allow me to make changes. What a pain. CSS was much longer but easier to deal with

You can’t make corrections to the Profile online…At all. That is a much bigger PITA.

^^^
The change that OP wants to make is to add another school, which as far as I know is possible online.

For Profile…yes…one can add an additional school for submission online.

You have to accept the myth that the FAFSA is being completed by the student. We all must agree that the 17 year old is completing these documents all by herself and the parents only log in with an ID to enter the income and a few assets. Everything else belongs to the student. Adding more schools is a student’s choice and responsibility so therefore only the student can access those items on the application.

Once you accept this, your life will be easier.

There are different ways to add more schools, your D can follow the instructions above on how to sign in to FAFSA to add another school or you can contact the school to have them add their school code to your FAFSA. Or contact the student aid center and they can add the school for you.
