Fafsa please help

Hey, I’m currently a transfer student who got accepted to Rutgers Newark for fall of 2018 I transferred from Bergen Community College. I didn’t receive any financial aid nor state aid have no idea why? You guys think if I go to the financial aid office or contact them any chance I can get something? Give them a sob story or soemthing and get even a bit of financial aid? 14k is too much for me and I won’t be able to afford that. Is there any way to get it reduced a bit? Any solid scholarships that will actually give me money?

Did you file the FAFSA? If your EFC is ~$6,000 or higher you won’t qualify for a Pell Grant. Do you qualify for the [NJ TAG grant](NJ Grants Home | New Jersey Student Financial Aid | HESAA)? If so, make sure you apply for it, and make sure your applications have been filled out correctly. Need based aid is an entitlement. You either qualify or you don’t, so telling the school a “sob story” won’t help.

Tuition and fees at Newark is ~$14k/year. If you filed the FAFSA you can take the $7500/year federal student loan, and if you work summers you can earn ~$3-5k. Can your parents contribute at all? If not, can you work during the school year to make up the difference? You may be able to get on a payment plan at the school.

Are you saying you submitted the FAFSA, had a $0 EFC and got no aid…or what?

What was your FAFSA EFC?

What aid did you receive from your community college, and for how long?

Did you send your FAFSA to the new school? Did you contact your state to transfer your aid to the new school?
