FAFSA question

The college I'm going to says they need the FAFSA by Feb 15. However the FAFSA requires 2010 adjusted income, which comes from the 2010 income tax forms, which are not able to be submitted until Feb 15.

How do I submit the FAFSA without the 2010 AGI? Completely freaking out...

Check with the school to see if you can file with estimated numbers and a “will file” status.

You can prepare the 2010 tax return and have all the numbers done even though it can’t technically be filed until next week. I do mine on-line with a tax prep service and was able to complete and print all forms. Do your FAFSA with those numbers. I was able to do mine in this manner.

Arghghg my mom was insisting that calculating the AGI was impossible without submitting it. Going to go shoot up my garden now.
Haha thanks for the information rockvillemom. I’ll pass it on.

Confused about what information fafsa needs about retirement plans 401K, IRA, SSA and Retirement payments. How much of that a) needs to be reported and b) is considered when colleges offer financial aid?

BTW, I’m retired and no longer earning a salary, but have two kids in college still!
