We filed a FAFSA when son was a freshman, but did not receive any need based aid. We did not file when he was a sophomore. Now that he will be a junior and we have 2 in college we think we'll file again for him. (Deadline is April 15.)

Do you think we file the FAFSA renewal or a regular FAFSA?

Go to FAFSA on the web and see. follow the directions and see. The only thing you get if it is a renewal is that all the personal info is already entered (name, address, etc). You still have to fill in the rest. You will need both your PIN and your student's to do this.

Weenie - cannot answer your specific question but will offer some unsolicitated advise -- make sure older s notifies financial aid that he has a change in status and will request financial aid. We were in your situation last year and the school told us it was good that we gave them a heads up so the request wasn't missed.

Good luck Weenie...I hope this nets you a few dollars. When we did it for DS (for this year) his school gave him an additional $500. Every penny counts!!!
