2 kids, 2 fafsas???

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and very excited to find this place since I have been attempting to find answers to what I thought would be a simple question, but apparantly nobody seems to know. I'm sorry to jump right in with my question, but I am attempting to renew my oldest child's fafsa (a college freshman), but wondering if I should be doing anything differently since I also have a high school senior who will be needing to file with fafsa too. I assume I will need to fill out 2 fafsa forms, but I am far from an expert at this having only filled out fafsa once before....and it nearly gave me a breakdown then.

I would really appreciate any help (or advice). Thank you so much!

Sorry to say - but YES - you will need to do 2 FAFSA's - the renewal for your oldest - and a new one for your youngest - each kiddo needs their own 'account'/password - but for the parent - you use the same info from your federal IRS tax return to do YOUR part. Next year you will only have to do renewals for both.

Thank you so much for your response. I can hardly say the word fafsa without palpatations and as much as I dread doing this again, I am greatly relieved to know.

Thank you again so much.

Some free advice....do the renewal first. It will "spill over" any info (names etc) that are the same as for last year. Then plug in the numbers from your 2005 tax return and most recent bank statement etc. Doing the renewal is easier than one from scratch. Then...when it's done, submit and print out a copy. Go in and do the new one for the new freshman. All you will be doing is plugging in the same info for YOU that you put on the renewal...and then doing the student's income/assets.

I would advise you to check the deadlines...our 2 schools (renewals) were Feb. 1st and March 15th!

Ours are April 1, and April 15. It is nice to finally not have a freshman and have to get everything done pronto. But then of course there is time to procrastinate!

I will be starting for my masters, and there is lots of money available in Pa for nursing education...so I will be doing 3 fafsa's. i don't know why they make some of the things so complicated.....both years my son's was "chosen" to be verified.

Why 3?? and darn those out of state verifications LOL.

one for my son, one for my daughter, one for me. pain in my patoot. but hey, free money is good.

I get the honor of doing my last FAFSA :) = :( in a way tho - bittersweet some how - that means college for my kiddo is almost over :( (tho been doing them for several years - for 2 spread out kiddos.)

Is your DS going back to school in the fall?? How did things fall out for him at J&W's when he went to have a chat with them?? Will he be returning or going else where??

I can't begin to thank you all for your help. It really means a lot just to have another understanding soul. (s) And you're right about the deadlines....Tuesday for the renewal. I may be hanging out here quite a bit over the next couple of days...

Thanks again!!
